INTRODUCTION:

During Individual Period there are two different groups of drills we will do.  There are EDD’s (Every Day Drills) which should be done every day.  These are fundamental drills that teach, reinforce and simulate football movements.  There are also alternate drills that are used periodically in the year to teach other skills or the same skills but in a different drill (Players keep excited).

Drills used should simulate football situations.  We will never use a drill that isn’t teaching or simulating a movement, action, or play that we will have to execute in a game.  We will use the drills that are the most efficient for our system.

Drills are given a name.  This name will allow the players to get used to a drill and the coach can simply say the drill’s name and the players should know what to do.  Drills will be explained and explained as they relate to game situations.

Maximize reps with high quality execution.  Drills are meant to isolate skills and have players execute those abilities.  We will reinforce the idea of “high tempo & getting better every day” through drills.

EDD’s

1)  Stance
-2 pt, narrow stance, small package, inside foot slightly back.
-on balls of feet, Eagle claw!.
-knees bent, hips back, bent at waist, flat back Hands in front of knees, chin over the toes.
“cover the numbers” = we should not be able to clearly see players front numbers.  This ensures the players are bent over with back flat.
-pad level down, eyes up, head up and shoulder blades pinched.
-arms hanging loose, hands inside of frame

MOVEMENT DRILLS

2)  Ease Backpedal – “Pedal” / “Speed - Pedal” /
-Start instance, usually 4 lines, 4 whistle progression.
-On ‘go’ command by coach players execute back pedal.
-Maintain narrow base, keep pad level same
-Arms pumping (“beating the drum”), eyes up, good balance

3)  Pedal Transitions – (0 / 45 / 90 / degrees)
-Backpedal on ‘go’, on ‘break’ quick feet stop and back up to coach
-Look for quick feet to change direction, not wide base
-Players must accelerate after break, not jog back up

4)  Pedal / Plant / Drive –transitions – (0 / 45 / 45 & open / 45 – vertical & open)
-Backpedal; break 90 degrees on coach’s ‘break’ command
-Go left and right, then go on coach’s point direction (reaction open changed
-Keep eyes up field, sprint after break at least five yds (use lines)

5)  Pedal vertical 45 degree
-Backpedal; break 45 degrees to corner or post
-Go left and right, then go on coach’s point direction (react to stimuli)
-Players must accelerate out of break

5i)  Double Move Drills
            a)  Back and corner, speed turn to other corner
-Player backpedal, break to corner on command, on spin command
Spin around snapping head around and go 45 degrees other way

Johnny Manziel vs Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson is a fantastic football player. He may be an even better human being. He is not the prototype NFL QB relating to size. He is mobile, athletic and to many the next wave of NFL QBs. Will Wilson help Manziel with his draft status? Manziel is not Russell Wilson. Barry Switzer said it best: Manziel is arrogant, spoiled and has embarressed his team and coaches. Jaworski has said it best. Manziel does not possess the mechanics, read progression or discipline at this point to be a franchise NFL QB. In short Manziel is not Russell Wilson. Wilson was a 3rd round pick. Manziel will be fortunate to duplicate Wilsons draft slot.

Click Here Now for the entire playbook series  A New England Coach provides a playbook series for your youth program!  It is great stuff and I want to share it with you all. Click Here Now for the entire playbook series Dear coach,  If you care about your kids and the game you will read this four times. It's that serious. My name is Jamie Lewis, and I pulled Steve Christy's leg. I talked him into releasing his playbook, strategy and the video that I took of his games, meetings and clinics during the entire 2011 season. Being a father of one of the kids on Steve's team, I'll tell you this is like nothing I have ever seen before. Steve Christy coaches youth football. That's what he does. When he's not coaching youth football, he runs a sports apparel company. He lives and breathes football. Steve Christy is all about sports whether it is coaching Youth Football, High Schooll football or designing jerseys for teams. His team is unst...
