Michigan Sate Defense vs. Ohio State Offense

Courtesy of mlive.com AP Photo / Al Goldis EAST LANSING, Mich. -- It doesn’t take much to get Pat Narduzzi fired up. But if you really want to get him going, ask about this year’s Notre Dame game. In September, the Irish took advantage of four pass-interference penalties and a defensive-holding call to hand Michigan State its only loss of the season. Asked during a recent visit from ESPN.com whether that game prompted any changes to his aggressive style, the Spartans’ defensive coordinator loaded film of the questionable calls onto his computer and grew more animated as the plays unfolded on the screen. The defense run by Pat Narduzzi seems simple but the complexities are beneath the surface. “We didn’t make any adjustments,” he said. “I think the officials had to make adjustments. Just because guys can’t get open doesn’t mean it’s on us. “After that game, I continued to say to our guys, ‘Hey, that’s what we do, and that’s how we do it. We’re not going to ch

NFL Week 13 "Fire Schiano - not so fast!"

Game Notes:  Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Carolina Panthers: Fire Schiano - not so fast.  The Bucs play hard and may just be buying into Coach Schiano and his staff. Mike Glennon - the next in a line of NC State QB's leading NFL franchises.  At 6'7" inches tall, Glennon has stepped into a difficult situation after the Freeman debacle and is progressing into the franchise QB the Buccaneers need him to be.  The Buccaneers run game is a staple of commitment and an identifier of their toughness.  The match up vs the Carolina run defense will play a major factor today.   Cam Newtons' new found confidence, patience and leadership will be tough for the Buccaneers defense to deal with. Luke Kuechly, Carolina LB, leads a stout Panther defense with 93 total tackles.  He and his mates play tough, physical and relentless. Ohio State vs. the team up north!

Ohio State vs. Michigan: This week, the Governor of Ohio issued an official mandate to all Ohioans, do NOT use the letter "M" this week.  Saturday, on Braxton Millers' birthday, the only way for the Buckeye QB to celebrate is for his Buckeyes to do what everybody expects them to do, dominate the Wolverines.  Five times in the last twenty years Michigan has shocked and undefeated Ohio State team.  Not today though, Miller, Carlos Hyde, Ryan Shazier and company will continue their winning ways and defeat Coach Brady Hoke and the Wolverines. Eighteen of the twenty two starters for this Ohio State team have an extra special something lingering in the back of their mind today.  They are connected to the sweater vest.  Yes, these eighteen young men were recruited and brought to Columbus by Jim Tressel.  The sweater vest continues to live on in Buckeye land.  Coach Urban Meyer will stand on the OSU sideline directing his Buckeyes, knowing full well that he too

Steelers vs. Ravens Preview

Steelers (5-6, 2-4 away) Both AFC North teams are among the half-dozen teams in the conference currently tied for the final wild-card berth, making this game a potentially season-altering contest. The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing their best football of the season, but are still on the outside of the muddled AFC playoff picture. With a Thanksgiving night visit to the archrival Baltimore Ravens , they face a team that's essentially in the exact same position. Ravens (5-6, 4-1 home) "That team is hot," Ravens running back Ray Rice said of the Steelers. "They're playing good football right now. They have (a) group, they have their stable of how they want to play football and they're doing a good job of it right now." The two teams are tied with Titans, Chargers, Jets and Dolphins for the sixth and final playoff spot in the AFC, though Tennessee would make the cut currently. The top two tiebreakers for the wild card a

Lions dominate Packers 40-10

Detroit scores 37 unanswered points to overwhelm the Packers and win their annual Thanksgiving Day event for the first time in 10 years. The Lions' dominated the Packers in a 30-point win picking up their first Thanksgiving day victory since 2001.  The Lions (7-5) had lost 5 consecutive games against Green Bay and a franchise-record nine straight on Thanksgiving day prior to today's' 40 - 10 victory.  The Packers (5-6-1) continue their slide having not won a game since losing Aaron Rodgers four-plus games ago.   Matthew Stafford, 22/35 330yards 3-TD's, 2-INT's, Reggie Bush - 20 carries 117 yards 1-TD & Calvin Johnson 6 receptions 101 yards 1-TD, led a Lions offense that amassed 561 Total Yards.  Detroit overcame early turnovers and a 7 point deficit to score 30 unanswered points and reward Stafford with his first victory over a green Bay team.  nfl.si.com   The Lions defense, led by DL Ndamukong Suh, rattled QB Matt Flynn - (10/20 139 y

Thanksgiving Day NFL Picks

Ndamukong Suh. Image by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Packers vs. Lions: Matt Flynn returns to the Packers to face a familiar foe.  He will enjoy the opportunity to fill the seat of Aaron Rodgers, at least for this week against the Lions.  Flynn set a Packer record throwing for nearly 500 yards two years ago against the Lions.  His performance garnered a free agent courting that eventually landed him in Seattle with the big contract.  Seahawk rookie sensation, Russell Wilson, had other plans and Flynn became expendable this year.  He took his talents to Oakland and then to Buffalo, and in both situations, he could not find the magic and comfort level he had as Rodgers' backup in Green Bay.  Now, with his 3rd team of the 2013 season, Flynn will lead the Packers today to face the daunting task of Mega-tron,  Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley in the traditional Thanksgiving day game in Detroit.  Flynn will not strike magic again against the Lions.  Matthew Stafford and the

Pelini Did not Use Drugs

"FAU did not terminate your employment because of a finding that you used illegal drugs," FAU interim president Dennis J. Crudele wrote in the letter Tuesday. "Accordingly to clarify these significant points ... your resignation is withdrawn and your separation is converted to a termination with cause based on our finding that you failed to timely report certain conduct of a member of your staff, as required by your contract." Based on language in Pelini's contract, by being fired with cause he will not be paid by the university, but he also will not owe FAU any money, as he would have if his termination were considered a resignation. On Oct. 30, Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis resigned. In a news conference that day, FAU athletic director Pat Chun said both coaches admitted to using "illegal drugs," which was in violation of their contracts. On. Nov. 7, Pelini told ESPN he denied using illegal drugs and that he was fo

#4 Baylor vs. #10 Oklahoma State

The Big 12 in the National Spotlight:    #4 Baylor vs. #10 Oklahoma State Oklahoma State 49 – Baylor 17 Observation #1 Baylor: The Bears opened up in their fast paced spread offense in 00-Personnel, 5 WR's spreading out the Oklahoma State defense 53 & 1/3 yards attempting to create favorable match-ups.  They wanted to create a rhythm and tempo by snapping the ball in under 15 seconds per play.   It was obvious that the Bears felt they could match up well with the Cowboys defensive perimeter personnel.   The majority of their personnel groups were 3, 4 & 5 WR sets.   Baylor decided to play a box of tackle to tackle and match up their OT’s vs. the DE’s of Oklahoma State in 1 on 1 matchup.   This would prove to be a mistake and an advantage for the Cowboys as their DE’s were able to beat the OT’s from a short edge most of the night keeping Petty in the pocket and on rhythm not extending the play.           Observation #2 Baylor: With Oklahoma State defend
