NFL Scouting Combine 2014

Is J. Clowney DE Clemson a top 5 pick? Will Teddy Bridgewater be a franchise QB? Can Johnny Manziel electrify the NFL the way he did the SEC and Texas A & M. There are many names that have surfaced including Watkins, Robinson and more. The question for the top teams in draft positions is need vs  hype. The most recent collective bargaining agreement has evened the playing field and put a lid on un proven rookies getting paid huge money without ever playing a NFL down. Now teams can draft need and position their teams for success. The next 2 months will be very interesting to watch.  The Texans and Bill O'Brian are in a position to help an already talented football team. My quess is Oby takes a page out of his grooming as a Patriot assistant and trades down for draft picks.  We will have our answers to this very deep and talented draft and how franchises choose to position themselves. Johnny Manziel vs Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson is a fantastic football player. He may be an even better human being. He is not the prototype NFL QB relating to size. He is mobile, athletic and to many the next wave of NFL QBs. Will Wilson help Manziel with his draft status? Manziel is not Russell Wilson. Barry Switzer said it best: Manziel is arrogant, spoiled and has embarressed his team and coaches. Jaworski has said it best. Manziel does not possess the mechanics, read progression or discipline at this point to be a franchise NFL QB. In short Manziel is not Russell Wilson. Wilson was a 3rd round pick. Manziel will be fortunate to duplicate Wilsons draft slot.

2014 Combine completed

The 2014 NFL Combine has just completed. To many insiders this will be the deepest draft in overall talent in over a decade. 4 players emerged as possible top picks and none of them are QBs. Clowney - DE South Carolina Robinson - OL Auburn Mack - LB/DE Buffalo Watkins - WR Clemson All players impressed but will any of these 4 be the #1 pick? I do not believe this will happen. The pressure to have a franchise QB is overwehlming in the NFL. With at least 10 teams not having their QB situation settled look for a team to move up or the top draft teams trade down to allow a QB to be taken. It will be interesting.
